but pakeha arent constantly reminded there are bugger all full blooded one of them left either
well i know for a fact that there is not many full blooded maori's left because one of my closest friends is full blooded, and its only him and his few remaining relatives that are
i think it is an archaic term that is no longer used and different ways of looking at family history have evolved to determine who is Maaori.
I dont care what people say i am full blooded maori an stuff what anyone else says, both my parents are maori and both thiers where I am a full blooded maori thats my story and im sticking to it
Well according to Mason Durie i think he says there are no "full- blooded maaori", because in your parents history someone will have married a non-maori person. He is a very good Maaori writer so you could check with his books which have statistics.I am pretty sure he says the terminology was dropped in favour of new language.Anyone who can demonstrate some connection to Maaori in their family history can classify themselves as Maaori now i think. But you have to get involved in the culture and work out which group / iwi or something like that that you are linked to if you want to apply for financial perks like education scholarships or something.I think full-blooded might have been dropped because it is a bit racist like Nazi's who wanted all people with traces of Jewish blood to be killed & only 100% "pure" German people to exist...I think looking at the purity of people's blood might have ceased when the last actual full-blooded Maaori died. This is just my memory of what i read, but i am usually quite accurate in my comprehension skills & memory - more so than about 99.99999% of the population.
I don't think there are full blooded anyone these days, unless your from out of the bush and still a native. Remember there were no T.V's and there were Sailors, Pirates, Soldiers, and others with nothing better to do, but to do what they know best.
